Adjacent to U Street, Shaw is rich in cultural history particularly known for its pre-Harlem Renaissance and famous jazz residents, including Duke Ellington. The neighborhood was historically ridden to urban decay, but is now transformed into a multiracial hub of people. Shaw is home to Howard University, featuring many new bars, restaurants, coffee shops, creative art spaces, and many more. The neighborhood remains featuring historical row homes and grand Victorians, in addition to trendy new developments that give the neighborhood an artsy, colorful look to its architecture that decorate the streets. Shaw is gradually seen as a place for growth. It is home to its own metro stop on the Yellow/Green Line.
