Georgetown Day School is hitting the pause button to seriously consider its proposal to consolidate its schools onto one site. As proposed the cohesive campus would sit alongside a new residential development in Tenleytown at 4200 Davenport St., NW, the former site of the Tenleytown Safeway.

GDS previously shrunk its proposal for several hundred units of residential and a new grocery store in six- and seven-story buildings in March, but now the private school is taking a second look at the entire proposal, according to UrbanTurf.

A board member at the NW DC school cited a recent DC Court of Appeals decision to reject a planned unit development located just blocks from the Brookland Metro. The court determined that the DC Zoning Commission did not justify the density of the project, which a group of neighbors objected to, The Washington Business Journal reported. GDS is hoping to avoid a similar situation.
