The DC Streetcar (have you heard the jingle?) is celebrating six months of operation along H Street and Benning Road this week. And the District Department of Transportation just announced the free transit option will begin Sunday service in September.

While there are questions about whether the $200 million 2.2 mile streetcar line was a worthwhile investment, we have seen first-hand the economic development that has arrived on H Street.

New apartments are leasing now at The Apollo, which will be anchored by a Whole Foods set to open in 2017. New condos and apartments are coming online north of the line as well, including projects by our friends at Lock 7 and Ditto Residential. H Street has changed dramatically in recent years, whether the streetcar should be credited is another matter.
