Beaujolais Nouveau Day 2016
This Thursday, November 17th, is Beaujolais Nouveau Day – an annual French day of celebrating the release of the wine just weeks after the Beaujolais grapes were harvested. It always falls on the third Thursday of November. In the US, Beaujolais wine is considered a Thanksgiving wine as the holiday always falls one week after Beaujolais Nouveau Day. We’ve heard Le Diplomate and ENO Wine Bar will be serving fine Beaujolais to celebrate.
It’s DC Cocktail Week which means cocktail and food pairings for a great price at your favorite DC spots. We’re particularly excited about the oyster and cocktail pairings at Whaley’s in Navy Yard. Check out the full list here.
It is finally beginning to cool down in the District. The ice rink at the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden officially opens this weekend on November 18th. Hours and rates can be found here.
Raclette Pop-Up Station
ENO Wine Bar is transforming into the likes of the Swiss Chalet and serving traditional Raclette and accompanying bites. Haven’t heard of Raclette? Its a traditional Swiss-German cheese dish that originated with sheep farmers in the 13th century. Sheep farmers melted cheese made from their herds milk during cold months and served it over crusty bread served with pearled onions, golden potatoes and Cornichon. More info here.
